The FREEDOM TOUR NOVA SCOTIA Bike Tour will be launched on Thursday, July 31st in Yarmouth at the Issak Walton Killam Library. The Bike Tour will travel from Yarmouth to Sydney during the first two weeks of August, with stops in many communities to show the film.
Bradley Rivers, of Flow Productions, is one of the bikers and the filmmaker who created the Freedom Tour Nova Scotia. This film highlights the struggles people with intellectual disabilities have with institutional living and their successes when they are living in community. The focus of the film is to create awareness of the civil rights of persons with intellectual disabilities to live in a home of their choice and be a part of their community.
“We are excited about the tour across the province and sharing our film with Nova Scotians,” said Donna Murphy, President of People First Nova Scotia and co-chair of the Freedom Tour Committee. The community events are scheduled with a showing of the film and a meet and Greet event with local People First members and the bicycle riders who are making the trek across Nova Scotia. “Citizens with intellectual disabilities have the same civil rights as other Nova Scotians and should live in the community of their choice,” said Dave Kent, Vice President of People First Nova Scotia and co-chair of the Freedom Tour Committee.
There are plans to show the film in other communities in the fall. For more information on the film and tour please visit the Bike Tour site:
