Mi'kmaq Community to Demonstrate at Canso Causeway

Protest follows government decision to allow test oil well drilling at Lake Ainslie

A demonstration will be set up by members of the Mi'kmaq community at the Canso Causeway this morning in opposition to oil drilling near Lake Ainslie, Cape Breton. 

This follows the rejection of the Margaree [Cape Breton] Environmental Association's appeal to the Nova Scotia Department of Energy to disallow Petroworth Resources from drilling in the area.

The following notice was posted to the Media Co-op's website Wednesday night: 

"Please spread the urgent news far and wide, 

Calling On ALL Support for Mi'kmaq Warriors tomorrow at Canso Causeway, Our Boys, Our Brothers and Defenders of our Rights need ALL the Support you can give them, they will be starting tomorrow as early as 10AM to bring awareness and consultations of Drilling or Fracking Of Lake Ainslie! Please send your husbands, sons, nephews, cousins, uncles, grandmothers, grandfathers, mothers, daughters , sisters , nieces, whom ever can and is willing to take a stance with our Warriors to Protect Unamaki Waters! Meet us at the Cape Breton Canso Causeway!! This is real and its a Go!"
