» More information

The Halifax AIDS Candlelight Vigil is held each year on December 1st, World AIDS Day. It provides us with an opportunity to unite in the fight against HIV, show support for people living with HIV/AIDS and to commemorate those who have died.

Please join us this year on Sunday, December 1st, 7:00pm  at the Italian Canadian Cultural Association of Nova Scotia – 2629 Agricola Street in Halifax.

The Vigil is much more than just a memorial. It serves as a community mobilization campaign to raise social consciousness about HIV and AIDS. With 33 million people living with HIV today, the Halifax World AIDS Day Vigil serves as an important intervention for global solidarity, breaking down barriers of stigma and discrimination, and giving hope to new generations.

We maintain a Book of Names – a list of the first names of Nova Scotians who have passed away from complications due to HIV/AIDS. The Book contains names of those people with whom we were familiar. Other names have been added as well. The Names are read as part of the Vigil ceremony in celebration, remembrance and support.
