Almost 75 students surrounded the front and back entrances of Province House on Mar. 31, 2011. They were fighting a government proposal to cut post-secondary education funding by 4 per cent and allow tuition fees to increase by 3 per cent.

"The ultimate goal was to show our [government] that we're not going anywhere," said Kate Stinson, the women's representative for the Students' Union of Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University (SUNSCAD). 

Natasha Kryzyewski, President of SUNSCAD, was unable to attend the Walk of Shame, but was on the Planning Committee for the event. "We wanted to be the first faces that they see when they come back... because we remember the promises they made to us for years before they got put in power as the governing party," she said.

"They weren't just election promises. It was their party stance that they would prioritize education, and we haven't forgotten."

Midway through the protest, Canadian Federation of Students Maritimes Organiser Rebecca Rose said that in response to student pressure on the Office of Advanced Education, "we have gotten a meeting with Minister Marilyn More [...] for today after the Throne Speech."  

Students cheered and continued to protest until well after 2pm, chanting "What do we want? Reduced tuition" and  "Fuck high fees!"
