On Wednesday, July 28th, members of Campus Action on Food (CAF), a Dalhousie campus based group, displayed their container garden project called 'Edible Campus' at a garden party. The party featured music, workshops, face painting, a corn boil, and cupcakes.
Over 60 people came to the event, including members of the Dalhousie Student Union (DSU) and Dal staff. Campus Action on Food encountered some resistance during the school year from DSU executives who took issue with CAF's direct action food servings in the Dalhousie Student Union Building.
CAF hopes to build sustainable models of student-run food production and consumption, and highlight the need for nutritious, local, and affordable food for students. Currently food services provided on campus are run by corporations engaged in contracts with Dalhousie University and the DSU.
