Seeking Part-Time Managing Editor, Halifax Media Co-op
The Halifax Media Co-op (HMC) is part of a national network of local media co-operatives dedicated to providing grassroots, democratic news coverage.

We are looking for a part-time Managing Editor to fill a 12-week contract position beginning April 4 (ending June 25), with possibility of contract extension. 10 hours, $150 per week.
Duties include:
Editorial work:
- soliciting, fielding and responding to story pitches
- editing stories
- posting stories on halifax.mediacoop.ca and sharing them via social media
- working with and supervising student journalists
Organizing & outreach:
- corresponding with sustaining (funding) members
- corresponding with contributing (writing, illustrating & volunteering) members
- corresponding with local editorial collective
- serving as Halifax representative on the national Media Co-op board of directors
- with the HMC editorial collective, coordinating the 2016 AGM
Fundraising:
- coordinating and posting online advertisements
- soliciting sustainer members
Administration:
- writing and mailing cheques to contributors
- collecting and filing invoices
Strong candidates have a keen interest in journalism, social justice and grassroots organizing.
Please note: The Halifax Media Co-op does not currently have an office so interested candidates will need to work from home for much of the time and/or figure out their own working arrangements. Interested candidates need access to a personal computer and internet.
