Halifax Peace Coalition wants Mayor Savage to Give Peace a Chance!
Poet Laureate El Jones to read new poem at human peace symbol event
(Halifax) – The Halifax Peace Coalition is organizing a human peace symbol event on Tuesday, August 27 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the Grand Parade Square in front of city hall in Halifax. The coalition is asking Mayor Savage to “Give Peace a Chance!” and to join the international network Mayors for Peace, which promotes nuclear abolition. The coalition is also calling for a ceasefire and a non-violent resolution to the crises in Egypt and Syria. The event is to promote the values of peace, non-violence and friendship in the city and world.
Halifax’s poet laureate El Jones will be reading a special poem dedicated to peace. Hossam Abou Adma will be speaking about promoting peace in Egypt and Syria. Sandy Greenberg from the Nova Scotia Voice of Women will be singing a song. The group is inviting the general public to participate.
