Halifax, NS - September 10, 2012
September 22nd 2012 marks the return of CKDU 88.1 FM's Annual Funding Drive. “CKDU is Halifax's strongest local connection,” says Station Coordinator Gianna Lauren. “Our 28th Funding Drive theme is 'Listen Local' to remind Halifax that CKDU prioritizes community, partnerships with local organizations, local and regional news coverage, and support for local independent artists and musicians. This media outlet is vital to our local history.”
As CKDU celebrates 28 years on the air with the traditional pledge-a-thon, a variety of events, and fabulous prizes, Halifax's only campus-community radio station is attempting to raise $28,000 from the community to put towards station upgrades. The annual Funding Drive acts as critical contribution to complement operational funding from student levies at Dalhousie University and the University of King's College. The additional funds assist CKDU in increasing member services, upgrading equipment, and continuing to support the production of local valuable local programming. All proceeds will contribute to larger projects including upgrading the Production Studio and purchasing expensive equipment that is outside the not-for-profit budget.
PRIZES - CKDU truly values the Halifax community and the loyal listenership of 88.1. To show appreciation to donors during Funding Drive, CKDU offers a variety of prizes. For every $30 pledge, each donor will receive numerous incentives and a pile of CKDU swag. A full list of prizes and the fresh swag can be viewed at fundingdrive.ckdu.ca
EVENTS - The CKDU Funding Drive includes numerous concerts and events throughout the community and Universities! Beginning September 19, CKDU will be presenting an eclectic mix of performances: DJ dance parties, rock concerts, a pancake breakfast, a journalism panel, an educational dinner, community talent show, literary readings, and comedy nights. CKDU would like to extend an invitation to all members of the public to join in the fun. See the full list of events at fundingdrive.ckdu.ca. All money raised will go to support CKDU, Halifax's beloved radio station, voted #1 by The Coast readers consistently for the past seven years, and winner of the Nova Scotia Music Award for Best Radio Station and Best Community Presenter (2011).
PROGRAMMING - CKDU DJ's really come alive this time of year, and the program schedule is full of interesting radio during Funding Drive. “Programmers are the heart of the station,” says Ms. Lauren. “The Funding Drive show acts as everyone's personal 'best of'.” The Funding Drive pledge-a-thon kicks off Saturday September 22nd at 8am with Walter Kemp, host of Saturday Morning Musical Box, a show that has been broadcasting for over 27 years. “We encourage the public to tune in and show their love for these hard-working broadcasters who donate their time and energy week after week.” Listeners can donate by calling 902-49-HAPPY or visiting www.ckdu.ca to support their favourite CKDU show.
