WHO ARE WE?
Chris Benjamin is a Halifax-based journalist, columnist and author. His book, Eco-Innovators: Sustainability in Atlantic Canada (published by Nimbus), won an Atlantic Book Award and is a finalist for Nova Scotia's Richardson Prize. He's captivated by media, how they make, change and shape stories, and thinks his collection of true stories of inspiring environmental folks can reach a new audience via video. He believes these stories have the potential to inspire real change, and celebrate our successes. To learn more about Chris see http://www.chrisbenjaminwriting.com/.
Kevin Moynihan is a filmmaker, and an environmentalist at heart. He makes engaging documentaries about amazing people and projects. His educational background gives him a grounded sense of how to spark the brain via his medium of choice. He is excited by the opportunity to use these skills to tell the stories of real people making a real difference in our region. To learn more about Kevin please see http://www.kmproductions.ca/Welcome.html.
We are both passionate about what we do, and eager to bring these videos to a larger audience. We hope to distribute them widely via education and library systems. The videos will be free to users. The money we raise covers production costs, as detailed at http://www.indiegogo.com/thegreengourmet.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We created the Off the Hook video in part to gauge reaction. In a short time we were impressed with the response. The video was posted by David Suzuki and covered by OpenFile Halifax, and shared hundreds of times in just a few days via Facebook, Twitter and email. We feel that with a series of related food videos on an organic family farm on PEI, an organic mill and wholesaler in New Brunswick, and a local food retailer in Nova Scotia, we can show what our food system could be with a sustainability focus.
WE HAVE 36 DAYS left in our Indiegogo campaign to raise $18,000 - that's $6,000 per video. Our deadline is Oct. 15. Please help us reach our goal. Your support helps us promote a local, organic, sustainable food system, and some of the inspiring people making the changes.
