The Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU) says that the four striking workers from the Elizabeth Fry Society of Mainland Nova Scotia have reached a collective agreement with the society's board of directors.

The workers had been on strike since July 11. At issue was a one per cent raise for each of the two years of the contract. Workers also expressed the importance of standing up for their rights in order to set an example for the women they work with in the justice system.

The workers will receive a lump sum equivalent to the amount they would have earned with a one per cent raise over the past two years.

The NSGEU also says that a number of the women's working conditions have been improved and clearly defined.
