Weekly Halifax Media Co-op contributors meeting next Monday

If you’re a writer, thinker or story-teller, the Halifax Media Co-op wants to hear your voice.

We are dedicated to grassroots citizen journalism and are always on the lookout for new contributors — no matter what your experience level is.

The media co-op will accept work on a range of topics from labour, aboriginal and African Nova Scotian issues, gender and sexuality, disabilities, health and the environment, as well as any community-minded news.

We also know that good stories require work to tell, so we pay our writers.

For coverage of events and other time-sensitive news, we pay $75 with the expectation of a next-day deadline. We pay $125 for longer, more well-researched features. Our writers are also required to take photos.

But wait! All stories must first be pitched to the editorial collective, so don’t start writing until we give you the go ahead.

If you’re interested in writing for the media co-op, please join us at our weekly story meetings starting Monday, Oct. 6 at Midpoint Cafe on Spring Garden Rd at 7 p.m.

At the meeting you’ll have a chance to receive valuable feedback from editors on story ideas and the opportunity to learn about other ways to become involved with the media co-op.

Our story meetings are open to everyone, so please help spread the word.

Don’t just read the media, be the media. We hope to see you Monday.
