HALIFAX – January 28, 2013 – The Learning Disabilities Association of Nova Scotia has joined forces with Chisholm Services for Children for the 13th annual Blind Date with a Star on Tuesday, February 5, 2013.
The evening will start with a reception at the World Trade and Convention Centre followed by a live draw where tables of 10 guests are paired with a local celebrity and a fabulous dining venue.
About 50 local stars from singer-songwriters, artists, actors, authors, athletes, comedians, politicians, Olympians, Hall of Famers and media personalities will set out on a night of fun and food with their 10 Blind Dates.
Premier Darrell Dexter will be on hand to welcome guests to the reception before the celebrity draw is made.
Proceeds from Blind Date go directly to support children’s programs offered by the two benefitting charities, LDANS and Chisholm Services for Children. The LINKS program coordinated through LDANS is designed to help elementary-aged children who are experiencing difficulty with reading and writing skills. Since the launch of LINKS in 2001 over 1000 children have enrolled and benefitted from this research based intervention.
Chisholm Services for Children is the only not-for-profit organization in central Nova Scotia offering a long term residential care program specializing in early intervention care. Chisholm is dedicated to guiding children ages 7 to 12 who face severe adverse circumstances, such as neglect and abuse, to a realization of self worth.
“The success of the event from year to year is attributed to the support received from the many participating venues, sponsors, and celebrities,” said Geoff Hurst Co Chair of the event. “We are looking forward to a fun-filled night that benefits children in our community.”
