The Community Carrot Co-op’s #1 spot in Canada will be put to the test as Aviva launches Semi-final voting in its $1 million Community Fund give-away. Halifax’s Community Carrot Co-op captured and held first place across Canada in Round #3, finishing with 3,820 supporters providing 13,312 votes.

Support comes from all across the country with voters located in Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and BC, across Atlantic Canada and in Halifax. -I live in this neighbourhood with my two children. it's a long walk back from the big chain grocery stores with heavy bags. I love this idea! great work getting the word out!
-I live in Alberta but I will be voting every day so that there can be affordable access to good for you food. EVERYONE should have it!
-Having been a single dad who raised his son in the North End community, I understand the challenges faced by residents trying to feed their families healthy food here..The extra time and money required to leave the area to get to a grocery store just adds to the cost and difficulties
-A community-owned, community-oriented grocery store for Halifax's North End! Outstanding. Please share with all lovers of justice, health, good food, and Halifax. (from Vancouver, BC)
Norman Greenberg, one of the CCC’s founding members says: “The Carrot’s success can partly be attributed to its collaborative approach within the North End community. The Carrot participated in Halifax Connects, had its unicycling carrot in the recent North End Holiday Parade, was active in a recent NS Co-op conference and is working with Hope Blooms and churches such as United Memorial to build partnerships that strengthen the community.” But there are many other well organized, great community projects also in the running for the Aviva prize money. Can The Carrot muster the votes needed to win? With your support we can bring healthy, affordable food to Gottingen St. by March.
Voting starts: 1 pm AST Monday, Dec 3rd. http://www.avivacommunityfund.org/ideas/acf14945
