Halifax, NS – The Nova Scotia Citizens’ Health Care Network is very pleased that all three political parties have pledged to support Bill 144 – the Insured Health Services Act. Monday night during Second Reading debate on the bill, the Liberal and Conservative Health Critics said their parties would support the legislation.
“Health care should never be a partisan issue and we are glad to see the three political parties affirm their support for universal, single-tier public health care,” says Kyle Buott, Provincial Coordinator of the Health Network. “The constant debate about public versus private needs to end so we can start to focus on positive public sector solutions.”
The Health Network hopes this means all three political parties will take action to put an end to private, for-profit health care in Nova Scotia.
“Since all parties say they support public health care, we’re hoping to see action to bring the private, for-profit clinics into the public system and reverse privatization in long-term care and home care,” says Buott.
The Health Network will present at the Law Amendments Committee tomorrow, Wednesday, November 28th at 4:30 pm at the Legislature to present legislative options to further strengthen the bill.
