Follow D’Arcy Wilson, artist-in-residence for Re:Focus Sustainable Art, on her blog Protect Your Love

by Visual Arts Nova Scotia

The Protect Your Love blog accompanies the Re-Focus Sustainable Art Residency hosted by Visual Arts Nova Scotia (VANS) in collaboration with the Ecology Action Centre and the Khyber Centre for the Arts.

“During my time as artist-in-residence, I will be traveling to Nova Scotia’s backcountry, setting up camp, and circling my tent with an electric fence as a form of protection from wildlife. In an area located a fair distance away from my campsite, but still visible with binoculars, I will install a grouping of walkie talkies. From the safety of my fence, I will speak into the transmitting walkie talkie and communicate with any wildlife that happens to pass by the cluster of radios.”

D’Arcy is scheduled to set out into the backcountry on Friday September 7. She will update the blog throughout the month and into October describing and documenting her onsite experiences. Read her first post “Preparation” and check back often for information on public events such as lectures,
presentations, or art exhibits that correspond with the residency (see Timeline).

Visual Arts Nova Scotia acknowledges support from the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage to realize the project.
