What are the current challenges to the provision of care for those who are living in poverty and in particular people who are homeless? What are some innovative ways that these challenges can be addressed? How can a consideration of these challenges provide us with a deeper understanding of the state of health and health care in Halifax and beyond?

Award-winning physician Dr. Jeffrey Turnbull will share his experiences as one of the founders and currently the Medical Director of the Inner City Health Project for the homeless in Ottawa.
Poverty, Health and Homelessness in Halifax: An interactive panel discussion
An Interactive Panel will discuss the above questions based on what they have experienced as providers of housing, health care and support services in our community.

Christine Saulnier, Nova Scotia Director of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives-NS, and Board Member of the Nova Scotia Citizens’ Health Care Network will serve as the Chair and Moderator of the panel discussion.
This event is part of the Dalhousie School of Medicine’s Visiting Professorship in Medical Citizenship. It has been organized with the following partners: Adsum for Women & Children, Canadian Doctors for Medicare, Halifax Central Library, Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre, North End Community Health Centre, Nova Scotia Citizens Health Network, and NTE: Impact Ethics.
