In April 2012, the Federal Government cut health coverage for refugees. Many no longer qualify for coverage for necessary medications such as insulin. Some refugee claimants have been denied access to physicians unless their condition is deemed a threat to public health or safety. 

Other cut health care services include: prenatal care for pregnant women, chemotherapy and access to mental health care.

Join thousands across the country to oppose the cuts to healthcare services for refugees!

In April 2012, the federal government announced drastic cuts to the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) – a Citizenship and Immigration Canada funded program that provides health coverage to refugees, refugee claimants, and others. The cuts came into effect on June 30th, 2012, and have had enormous negative impacts on IFH recipients across the country in the past year.

Let us remind ourselves of Gandhi’s famous words: the true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members.

The cuts to the IFHP are part of the erosion of our public health care system. It starts with the most vulnerable. 

Stand up for healthy communities and join health care workers and others on June 16th, 2014 at 12:00PM in the Courtyard of the Dalhousie Tupper Medical Building to denounce cuts that are discriminatory, inhumane, and an attack on Canada’s healthcare system!
