Ab(original): A Series About Creative Activism presents a screening of "8th Fire"

The Dalhousie Native Student Association (DNSA), in collaboration with Dalhousie Canadian Studies Society (DCSS) and the Equity and Accessibility Office, will be screening the first two parts of "8th Fire" as part of Ab(original): A Series About Creative Activism (the last two parts will be shown the following week). 

Ab(original): A Series About Creative Activism explores how Indigenous peoples are using various forms of art as political expression while identifying and discussing methods in which art can be used to draw attention to social justice issues. Additional events have been planned throughout the term; the series will conclude with a panel discussion on Indigeneity and creative activism (dates and events TBA).

"8th Fire is a Canadian broadcast documentary series, which aired in 2012. Featuring television, radio and web broadcasting components, the series focused on the changing nature of Canada's relationship with its First Nations communities. The television component aired as a four-part documentary series hosted by Wab Kinew as part of CBC Television's Doc Zone, while radio programming devoted to First Nations themes aired on a variety of CBC Radio series and the web component included content from a variety of contributors, including news coverage by other CBC News reporters and a series of short films by 20 First Nations, Inuit and Métis reporters and filmmakers."
