This participatory presentation will focus on how trade liberalization
affects global immigration trends, and trickles down to negatively
affect immigrants, refugees, and people living without status here in
Canada. Angela Day, journalist and staff member at NSPIRG, will locate immigration in historical context, and then look at the present
context, encompassing refugee trends and regulations, and a highlight of recent injustices within the immigration system. Chaudhry Roouf Ahmad, a refugee living in Halifax who is facing deportation along with his wife and three children, will then speak about his personal experiences in Canada, and the family's current plight. Finally, a discussion will ensue about organizing around these issues here in Halifax.

This presentation is part of NSPIRG's We Will Not Pay for Their Crisis
series. For translation and childcare or if you have any questions,
