HRM has received a letter from Sterling Belliveau, Minister of the Environment, stating that it must continue to operate the Front-End Processor(FEP) and Waste Stabilization Facility(WSF) until the landfill is closed in 2023. It also has letters from Jamie Baillie, Leader of the Nova Scotia Conservative Party, and Stephen McNeil, Leader of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party, that they would also require HRM to operate those facilities if they were to form government after the next election.
Despite these odds, Mayor Savage and Councillor McCluskey both confirmed to Rick Howe that consultation on closing those facilities would continue.
