Switch Collaboration for School of Planning Conference

As part of the Switch:Open Street Sundays initiative through the Planning & Design Centre (PDC) we are organizing an event with the Dalhousie School of Planning Shift: Density Conference for the morning of March 8th at the School of Planning on Spring Garden Rd. The session will feature Gill Penalosa the Director 8-80 Canada and the driving force behind the global Cicolvia (Open Streets) movement. This event is a partnership with the Provincial Thrive Initiative.

This session will bring together policy makers, planners, community groups, elected officials and others working to develop healthy cities to learn from the experience of Gill Penalosa. Gill will discuss key tools for developing liveable cities and streets, specifically the benefits of open street initiatives to support Sustainable Transportation. PDC will moderate a question and answer period with Gill, exploring the roles of different actors to advancing open street and AT initiatives. At the end of the session we will host an AT ideas fair and networking session with snacks and refreshments. Nova Scotia Moves will be there providing an opportunity for groups to pitch ideas to potential collaborators as well a potential funder. We will work to have reps from the various AT organizations in NS there also.
