Malnutrition is an often overlooked contributing factor to many international development issues. Considered “Everyone’s problem and no one’s responsibility” the impact of malnutrition goes beyond the individual to affect communities and countries. In 2012, the Copenhagen Consensus named “bundled micronutrient interventions to fight hunger and improve education” as the most worthwhile investment a developing country can make. Working on the front-line in Haiti, a country that has endured numerous and diverse hardships, Judith Nihorimbere of the Micronutrient Initiative is aware of the impact and challenges of nutrition programming in Haiti. In her presentation, Judith will give her first-hand account of the impact of malnutrition in the world and in Haiti. She will also describe available nutrition programs that are taking place in Haiti as well as talking about food fortification and its potential impact.
