Shambhala School is celebrating its 20th Anniversary with a spectacular concert fundraiser, Dignity – Music For A Bright Future, on Tuesday, February 12th, 7 p.m., at St, Mark’s Anglican Church, 5522 Russell St., Halifax, NS. Within the walls of the beautiful Gothic revival-styled St. Mark’s in Halifax’s north end, Dignity – Music For A Bright Future will feature internationally acclaimed Acadian-Canadian soprano, SUZIE LEBLANC; Halifax’s popular BLUE ENGINE STRING QUARTET performing Leonard Cohen’s If It Be Your Will; internationally acclaimed Baroque/Folk fiddler sensation DAVID GREENBERG, percussionist extraordinaire NICHOLAS HALLEY, and the lovely SHAMBHALA SCHOOL CHILDREN’S CHOIR.
“It's been twenty years of evolution - this city has looked after us and now we've grown up. We are now offering back, in a bigger way, a unique way to this Maritime society,” says Robyn Traill, Shambhala School Co-Founder and current Director. “Like these musicians, we are devoted to this place and know we can raise the inherent vitality of the Maritimes like the Maritimes has raised us.”
Shambhala School was founded in 1993 by parents and teachers to provide a high quality education mixed with the experience of genuine delight in learning. As a model of a sustainable, compassionate and aware society, it was intentionally envisioned as an inclusive school of racial, cultural and religious diversity. Taking its name from a mythological kingdom where citizens experience life through kindness and respect, the school and its teachers create an uplifted academic and social environment that explores the sources of the world's wisdom traditions, the practice of being a community, and the joy coming from the discipline of learning.
