The Centre for Art Tapes is proud to host a screening of the half-hour film Buzkashi Boys, produced by Halifax native Ariel Nasr and directed by Sam French (http://www.buzkashiboys.com/). The screening will take place on Wednesday, December 12 at 8PM, at the University of King's College Alumni Hall. The screening will close with a discussion with Nasr's experience as the Producer for this film which was made in Kabul, Afghanistan. The screening is a fundraiser for Afghan Film Project, a non-profit organization which aims to strengthen the local film industry in Kabul through capacity building workshops, internships and screenings.  

Buzkashi Boys is an experiment in cross-border filmmaking, born out of a desire for collaboration between Afghan and international filmmakers. Shot on location in Afghanistan, Buzkashi Boys is a unique and engaging look at life in Kabul beyond the headlines.  

 

Buzkashi Boys has won Best Cinematography in the UK Film Festival, Best Short at the Savannah Film Festival, and Best Short at Raindance Film Festival, among numerous other accolades. A slideshow and discussion with Nasr will follow the screening.

 

Tickets are available at the door by donation; 100% of the proceeds go directly to the Afghan Film Project, a non-profit that builds capacity in Afghanistan's film industry. Originally from Halifax, NS, Ariel Nasr is an independent Afghan Canadian filmmaker whose work focuses on documenting contemporary Afghan society. Director of award winning documentaries The Boxing Girls of Kabul and Good Morning Kandahar (National Film Board of Canada), Ariel's work encompasses producing, directing, writing and photography across many platforms. In 2010, Ariel co-founded the Afghan Film Project, a non-profit that builds capacity in Afghanistan's film industry, and last year he produced the multiple-award-winning short narrative film Buzkashi Boys. Nasr is also a former Centre for Art Tapes Scholarship Recipient (2005).
