Our Pension Plan and Mining in the Americas

6:00pm
Mardi Avril 28 2009

Venue: Mi'kmaq Native Friendship Centre
Address: 2158 Gottingen St.
Cost: pay-what-you-can

Rights Action is organizing this tour to bring more critical attention, in Canada, to health and environment harms and human rights violations that Goldcorp’s mines are contributing to in Honduras and Guatemala.

Since 2000, in Honduras, and 2005, in Guatemala, Goldcorp has made huge profits for its shareholders, directors and investors (including the Canada Pension Plan and numerous pension funds across the country), from its open pit, cyanide-leaching mining operations in Guatemala and Honduras, at the expense of a growing list of human and indigenous rights violations and environmental and health harms against local and Indigenous populations in Guatemala and Honduras.

The tour aims to raise awareness in Canada in advance of Goldcorp’s annual shareholder’s meeting -- May 22nd 2009 in Vancouver, Canada.

Organizer:Sophia Horwitz (902-429-6753, sophia@horwitz.ca) or François Guindon (819-329-0223, françois.guindon@gmail.com)
