Minutes from October 18 HMC Meeting

Blog posts reflect the views of their authors.

Present: Jane Kirby, Hillary Lindsay, Ben Sichel, David Parker

Agenda:
1) Updates
2) Olympics launch
3) Next paid feature

1) Updates

There is a newspaper/newsletter starting up in East Preston and those involved are interested in a journalism workshop.  Perhaps there could be some cross-pollination with content?  We'll be following up in November regarding the possibility of a skillshare.

Hillary has been invited to speak on a media panel at the Canadian Worker Co-op Federation's AGM in New Brunswick.  The AGM is being held from November 19th-21st.  Anyone else want to go?

We want to do more skillshares and sustainer pitches this winter.  Stay tuned!

2) The Dominion will be launching it's Olympic issue in November.  We're going to do a launch event in Halifax on Thursday November 26.  We brainstormed folks to speak on various issues connected to the Olympics, including media, gender, gentrification and land rights.  We're following up on details regarding speakers and a location for the event (North Branch Library was recommended).  If you'd like to help out with this event, email Hillary.

UPDATE: The North Branch Library was booked for the 26th so the date has been changed - unless there's another conflict - to Tuesday the 24th!)

3) We went through pitches for our next paid article and chose two.  The first on building bridges between elders and youth in East Preston and the second on food security in Nova Scotia.  Hillary will be in touch with the authors with some suggestions regarding focus and style.
