Occupy Oakland and the General Strike

Interview with Mike King, Nov 7th, 2011

by Asaf Rashid

On Wednesday October 26th, there was a call from the Occupy Oakland General Assembly for a 'General Strike' to occur on November 2nd. This was in response, most immediately, to severe police violence in the eviction of Occupy Oakland, which resulted in -- amongst other things -- brutal injuries to a young Iraq war veteran, Scott Olsen, who was an Occupy supporter. November 2nd saw upwards of 10,000 people on the streets at the height, according to some counts.

The person being interviewed is Mike King. He's a grad student at the University of California, Santa Cruz, studying gang injunctions. He's also an East Bay Activist involved with the Radar Nation Collective. He's been present in the the Actions in Occupy Oakland and gives his thoughts from the ground.
