SOLIDARITY HALIFAX III: NOVEMBER 5TH & 6TH

Please consider attending  the third Solidarity Halifax working conference happening on November 5th at the University of King’s College, 6350 Coburg Rd. A volunteer steering committee has been working since the Solidarity II conference held on March 18 and 19  to create an opportunity for social justice groups and individual activists to come together to strengthen our movements, and learn from each other. The goal of the conference is to work toward building a strong, inclusive, and vibrant anti-capitalist movement for justice in Halifax.

This initiative goes back to April, 2007, when the What's Left conference was attended by over 120 people. The first Solidarity Halifax conference was held on November 10, 2010 out of a loose coalition of individuals and groups who had organized anti-G8 activities when the G8 development ministers visted Halifax. The intention was to create space for people on the left to talk about important issues facing our movements such as identifying white privilege within movements, building organizing skills, and improving communication amongst movements and communities in order to build a stronger movement to fight against austerity. The second Solidarity Halifax was held this past March to continue this work through looking at organizing experiences of different communities and individuals.

The first day, November 5th will concentrate on discussing the current political situation, challenges facing our movements, and what we can learn from the past from other initiatives, organisations, and campaigns. On November 6th there will be a follow up meeting for those in particular interested in talking about the possibility of forming a pluralist, anti-capitalist, membership-based organisation in Halifax.
