International civil society is demanding a boycott of Israel until it complies with international law and ends the occupation, gives full rights to Palestinian-Israelis, and allows the right of return for Palestinian refugees.
Hey Heather, here's our pick: boycott Israel!
+++
The Israeli attack on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla on May 31st killed 9 international activists. It is the latest Israeli affront to human rights. It reinforced an on-going blockade on the Gaza Strip that prevents essential food, energy, medicine, and building supplies from entering the impoverished, war-torn territory.
About 6,000 lone soldiers – soldiers that have no family living in Israel – serve in the Israeli army every year. Heseg awards 100 scholarships each year to those who, after completing service, want to remain and study in Israel. Reisman and Schwartz donate $3 million a year to the cause.
As Israeli soldiers, these lone soldiers participate in a military that operates checkpoints restricting Palestinian freedom of movement, enforces the occupation of Palestinian land, and has a documented history of human rights violations, notably the assault on Gaza in December 2008 – January 2009, that left over 1,400 dead, the majority civilians.
Global public opinion can turn the tide against Israeli policies that deny Palestinians a homeland, denies them full rights in the Israeli state, imposes a lethal military occupation in Gaza and the West Bank, and denies full rights for Palestinian refugees to return. It was global public opinion and worldwide boycott, divestment and sanctions that brought an end to the South African apartheid regime in the 1980's.
Join Haligonians and the growing worldwide condemnation of Israel's colonial project of exclusion and dispossession. We can no longer be silenced; we raise our voices with the entire world.
Fight the power, turn the page!
Heather, Jerry, hear our rage!
