The Sipekne'katik Band asks for support in their struggle against the Alton Gas storage project. The spirit and intent of this demonstration is to raise awareness of the Band's concerns surrounding the Shubenacadie River's delicate Eco-system, while addressing how the consultation process has failed the Mi'kmaq Nation.
The plan is to walk from near the ferry terminal at the Halifax Harbour Waterfront to the NS Legislature, accompanied by community members' drums and songs. The intention is to have the Band's leadership address the assembly.
After the demonstration at the Legislature all participants will gather at the Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre for a feast and songs.
