LEADING UP TO PARIS CLIMATE TALKS, DALHOUSIE STUDENTS POINT TO UNIVERSITY’S FAILURE TO DIVEST

2:00pm
- 3:00pm
Tuesday November 24 2015

Venue: Dalhousie University Quad, McDonald Building

When: November 24, 2015, 2 pm

Where: Dalhousie University Quad, McDonald Building

What: One year after Dalhousie President and Board of Governors voted not to divest from fossil fuels, students have set up an art installation to draw attention to the error in their choice and the growing strength of the divestment movement. Since Dalhousie students began the campaign in 2012, $2.6 trillion dollars have been divested worldwide. Students urge the President and Board of Governors to divest from fossil fuels in preparation for the fast approaching Paris Climate Negotiations, which cannot be successful unless meaningful climate action is taken locally.

Photo-op: Group of Divest Dal students standing defiantly in front of installation. The installation is centred around a giant dollar bill reading “$ 2,600,000,000 DIVESTED”, and the surrounding signs staked in the ground display names of institutions that have contributed to that number. Other members of Divest Dal are scattered around the scene, talking with students and handing out pamphlets.
