Join us for our Conference Kick Off Party on November 12th from 7pm-10:30pm at the Upper Courtyard of the Halifax Brewery Market (1496 Lower Water St.), featuring an all-local-organic beer bar with Big Spruce Brewery, Propeller Brewery, Picaroons Brewery and the Tatamagouche Brewing Company. Wine will be provided by L'Acadie Vineyards, as well as other refreshments from Just Us! Coffee, and a delicious selection of snacks provided by Local Source Market. We are going to have a great ol' time - hope you can join us!
On November 13th, ACORN will feature our annual, 4-course, 100% Organic Banquet, preceding Dr. Vandana Shiva's keynote address for ACORN and Food Secure Canada. This event will mark the end of a day-long silent auction, including books, seeds, farm and garden equipment, and gift certificates, among others. We have limited tickets for this event, so secure yours today!
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Vandana Shiva is a world-renowned organic food and seed activist, author and physicist. She has authored more than twenty books on issues of globalization, corporate control, gender rights, justice, ecofeminism, and agriculture. Holding degrees in both physics and philosophy, Shiva has earned global recognition for her work promoting sustainable practices, as well as the protection of biodiversity and the rights of local communities. She has won numerous awards for her work including the Alternative Nobel Peace Prize in 1993, the Sydney Peace Prize in 2000, and is one of the founders of Navdanya, a movement to protect biological and cultural diversity.
