Enjoy a delicious three-course meal at Halifax’s Italian Cultural Centre, and spend the evening with Kevin Page, Canada’s first Parliamentary Budget Officer.
About Kevin Page
Kevin Page is the current Jean-Luc Pepin Research Chair in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ottawa. He was Canada's first Parliamentary Budget Officer from 2008 to 2013. He has 27 years of experience in the federal public service with most of those years spent at three central agencies responsible for budgeting including the Department of Finance, the Treasury Board Secretariat and the Privy Council Office. He was the Assistant Secretary to Cabinet for Macroeconomic Policy before becoming Canada's Parliamentary Budget Officer. He has a Master's degree in Economics from Queen's University. He is married and a father of three children.
Over the course of his tenure as Parliamentary Budget Officer, Page was praised for his work by both the left and the right, making headlines with his determination to keep federal government finances transparent and accountable. Page was not always popular with Ottawa politicians, drawing heat from the governing party when his calculations threw official estimates into question. Called an “unlikely enforcer” and a “latter-day folk hero to the average taxpayer,” we are very pleased to welcome Page to Halifax, where he will speak on what it will take to strengthen accountability in Parliament.
