Camp Fires presents work of Léopold L. Foulem, Paul Mathieu and Richard Milette: three gay francophone ceramists who are closely linked by shared histories, bonds of affection and a common critical discourse. Camp Fires examines aspects of their work within the overall framework of Camp. Rather than being simply a matter of how “gay” these ceramics are – how they reflect or address gay experience – the exhibition explores how each artist’s work engages with critical questions implicit within the term “Camp.” Those include questions of surface and depth, of reading conventional images and forms “against the grain,” of appropriation and collage as means of generating startling new meanings, and of cultural production as a series of performative gestures.

7:30 pm followed by the opening reception at 8:30 pm.

Admission is free, refreshments are served and there is a cash bar.
