One Kind Word: Women Share Their Abortion Stories launches in Halifax

Featuring women's personal experiences and portraits, One Kind Word reminds us that women who have had abortions come from all backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures and ages. Women who have had abortions are our mothers, sisters, grandmothers, lovers, friends, neighbours, doctors, teachers and politicians.

Please join us to hear people share their stories and experiences. This event is free!

About the authors:

Martha Solomon

Martha is a British Columbia-based educator, activist and writer. She has an MA in Women’s Studies and History from the University of Toronto and has taught Philosophy and Women’s Studies at the postsecondary level in both Canada and the US. Passionate about social justice and equity, Martha is drawn to the intersection between art and activism. She is the co-founder of the award-winning arts4choice project, which has been exhibited in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary and Portland as well as published in the Globe and Mail. Martha has also directed a short documentary film about prochoice activists.

Kathryn Palmateer

Kathryn Palmateer is a pro-choice photographer, filmmaker and activist. She has a degree in International Development from Dalhousie University and a Master’s degree in Political Science from York University. Kathryn runs a successful wedding photography and workshop business in Toronto. Her extensive experience in both lifestyle and portraiture emphasize a documentary style. She has travelled across Canada and the United States photographing women for the Arts4Choice project, as well as compiling a wide range of work on such diverse subjects as US War Resisters, Canadian Midwives and Breastfeeding Mothers. Kathryn co-directed her first feature length comedy, A Brand New You, with her husband, which recently won a Gold Remi Award at WorldFest Houston 2014. She lives in Toronto with her three favourites, Shawn, Bea and Tilly.

Our space is barrier-free but unfortunately our bathroom is not wheelchair accessible. 
We do carry scented-products, so sadly it is difficult to make this space a no-scents zone. However, if you could decline from wearing scented products to this event that would be appreciated!
