ONE NIGHT ONLY: CUBAN MUSICIAN GERARDO ALFONSO IN NOVA SCOTIA

Halifax, NS – Renowned Cuban musician Gerardo Alfonso will be playing in Nova Scotia for one night only, on Monday, March 24th
 
Singer/songwriter Gerardo Alfonso is in Dartmouth as part of a cross-Canada twelve city tour to 
showcase the unique tradition of Cuba’s nueva trova (new troubador) style of music. Nueva Trova is similar to folk music, exploring social and political issues, and day-to-day humanity, society and life through song. Alfonso is the writer and performer of well-known ballads such as “Sabanas Blancas” and “El Revolver”, and has shared the stage with Pablo Milanés, Maria Bethania, Silvio Rodriguez, Santiago Feliu and others.
 
The tour will promote the 3rd International Cuba Solidarity meeting in Havana October 27 to 29th, 2014,and is sponsored locally by the Nova Scotia Cuba Association and the Canadian Network on Cuba.
 
Sandra Ramírez, North American Specialist from the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) in Havana will accompany Gerardo and will speak about that upcoming event.
 
Tickets are $10/$5 for students at the door.
