Sandra Ascencio is a community advocate, educator and environmentalist from El Salvador working with the National Roundtable Against Metallic Mining in El Salvador (La Mesa). She works at the Franciscan Office for Peace, Justice and the Integrity of Creation. Sandra will highlight the dangers Canadian mining companies, including Pacific Rim and Goldcorp, pose to people, water, and the environment in El Salvador and beyond. The Mesa is calling for Goldcorp to halt development of its Cerro Blanco Mine on the Guatemala/El Salvador border, deeply concerned about possible contamination of El Salvador's major river, the Lempa River.

The Maritimes-Guatemala Breaking the Silence Network, KAIROS, the United Church,MiningWatch Canada and the Council of Canadians are hosting Sandra Carolina in NS/NB as part of a national speaking tour.
