Come and learn about this exciting, proposed hiking trail. Your input is encouraged!
Sponsored by Cobequid Eco-Trails Society (CE-TS), this open house is the last opportunity for public input before construction begins of the proposed hiking trail at Gully Lake Wilderness Area and on adjacent lands. CE-TS has been working collaboratively with Nova Scotia Environment (NSE), Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and private landowners, and hired a professional trails planner to plan and develop a high-quality hiking trail system. These trails will form a section of the proposed Cape to Cape Trail, between Cape George and Cape Chignecto.
About half of CE-TS proposed trail system is within Gully Lake Wilderness Area, administered by NSE. Other sections cross either Crown or privately owned lands, with permission of and governed by Landowner Agreements. Since last spring’s Open House, CE-TS has micro-planned and flagged about 35 kilometers, consulted with land owners, and completed much of the Rogart Mountain Trail.
Thanks to the Municipality of Colchester County, Nova Scotia Health Promotion and Protection, and North Shore Area Community Health Board, for their financial assistance for trail planning, to Sugar Moon Farm for sponsoring this event, and particularly to the 62 volunteers who worked on our first section, the Rogart Mountain Trail. We are also grateful for the support and good will of area landowners.
