EARLTOWN LAKES AND PORTAGE TRAIL section of the Cape to Cape.
Sponsored by Cobequid Eco-Trails Society
This is a chance to participate in the making of the Cape to Cape Trail!
SCHEDULE: Starting at 8:30 am, CE-TS will have coffee and tea available at Sugar Moon Farm, sign in, and shirt pick up. Those wishing their lunch at Sugar Moon Farm will place an order. At 9:00 am, the project will be summarized and Garnet McLaughlin will give new members and others an introduction to tools and safety. After the instructions, the group will head to EARLTOWN LAKES AND PORTAGE TRAIL and begin building. At noon, likely beside one of the lakes, people will eat a lunch they packed. At roughly 1 pm, we will return to work and finish around 4 pm. At 4 pm, we will head a short distance away to Norris Whiston's house (4945 Highway 311) for showers, sausage, pot luck salad, desserts, and beverages, and conversation. Those that wish, can camp in the yard or stay in one of the empty bedrooms.
THINGS TO BRING: Liquids for the morning, afternoon, and “evening”, a 10:30 am snack, lunch, work gloves, sturdy footwear, and pot luck for salad, dessert, or rolls. (Sausage and buns will already be purchased.) Cobequid Eco-Trails Society and Cobequid Trail Consulting will supply loppers, fire rakes, and fire axes. If you bring your dog, it has to be on a leash. Due to event insurance, the only power tools, used on this day, must be by employees of Cobequid Trail Consulting.
REGISTRATION: None for last year’s members and $10 for new members to pay for shirts and membership into CE-TS. If you are coming, please confirm by contacting Norris Whiston so CE-TS can plan for enough tools and food for supper. Within an e-mail to norrisw@ns.sympatico.ca or by phone 902-657-3476, give us your name, email address, mailing address, day and evening phone numbers, and whether you are staying for supper. (It will be a great time and we need a count by June 25 so that enough sausage can be purchased from the Pork Shop.) A waiver, indicating the understanding of the risks involved, can be signed on the day of the event.
