* A Parent’s Journey to Recovery: An Interactive Conversation *

with

Donna Methot
Vice President
HRM Chapter of the Schizophrenia Society of Nova Scotia

Just as people must go through their own unique journey of recovery from mental illness, so must their parents and friends. As a parent, Donna has found that the entire family has much to learn and work through, and will do so in its own time and way. The process of recovery can be very difficult at times, but when everyone has the supports that are needed, it can bring families closer together. Parents and their children have a common goal; they all want to be happy with their lives. That happiness is often intertwined with family relationships and people need to learn how to develop and strengthen those relationships. Donna will touch on highlights of her own personal journey; its challenges, her missteps, and her successes.

Donna will also be discussing some of the supports that are available for parents and friends of people who have experienced or live with a mental illness:

● the HRM Chapter of the Schizophrenia Society of Nova Scotia (SSNS);

● the SSNS’s Strengthening Families Together program; and

● Families Matter in Mental Health, a new 11-week program delivered by the Capital District Health Authority.

This week’s interactive conversation will be co-facilitated by Lisa Corra and Vince Daigle.
