Over 100 educators from teacher organizations will discuss educational issues at the Canadian Teachers’ Federation’s (CTF) Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held in Halifax, July 11-13. Hosted by the Nova Scotia Teachers Union, the CTF AGM will have as a theme "Teacher organizations: Charting the course for democracy”.

The CTF AGM is the highest legislative body of the Federation and is held every year to report on activities for the past year and determine priorities and activities for future years. The AGM engages the delegates of CTF Member organizations in debate and discussion on key issues and resolutions that have an impact on public education, students and teachers nationally. The meeting also sets the Federation’s priorities, budget and Member’s fee.

July 11:

release of findings of a national survey conducted on students’ mental health which garnered the responses of over 4,900 teachers from across Canada.

 

July 12:

Keynote remarks on Aboriginal issues in Education by former Prime Minister Paul Martin

 

Noon-hour

celebration of this year’s recipients of the Public Education Advocacy Award, Outstanding Aboriginal Educator Award and CTF Special Recognition Awards

 

July 13:

election of CTF Executive Committee as well as CTF President-designate who will assume the presidency in 2013 once the two-year term of CTF President Paul Taillefer is completed.
