Avalon Sexual Assault Centre invites you to join community leaders for a symposium on reshaping community responses to sexualized violence on March 14, 2012 from 9 AM to noon at the Ashburn Golf Club, 3250 Joseph Howe Drive. This symposium will consider questions such as: How do we think and talk about sexualized violence? How does the language we use impact how people who experience violence are treated? What can communities do to recognize the responses and resistance of people experiencing violence?

This event is intended for a wide audience of community members including politicians, civil servants, health professionals, educators, students, journalists, people involved with law enforcement, lawyers and legal professionals, labour activists, community workers, and community activists.

KEYNOTE: Dr. Allan Wade

Dr. Allan Wade will provide examples of how people who experience sexualized violence invariably respond and resist. He will also explore how communities and institutions can better acknowledge this resistance in order to appreciate the full extent and deliberate nature of violence.
