KJIPUKTUK (Halifax) - About 250 people gathered on Wednesday at the Army Navy Club hall in Halifax to hear White Ignorance and the Struggle Against Gentrification in Halifax, Past and Present.

Max Haiven, co-organizer with The Radical Imagination Project

(8:12) Ted Rutland, an assistant professor in the Department of Geography, Planning, and Environment at Concordia University in Montreal, where his research focuses on the racial politics of urban planning, housing, and policing in Canadian cities.

(42:40) Ingrid Waldron, sociologist and assistant professor in the Department of Nursing at Dalhousie University, whose recent research in Halifax's North End looks at gentrification as a process of racialization.

(56:33) Lynn Jones, a longtime North End activist and former vice president of the Canadia Labour Congress.

(1:13:30) El Jones, Halifax's poet laureate, Centreline studios volunteer, artistic director of Word Iz Bond, who also teaches at Dalhousie and Acadia.

(1:25:00) Community members in attendance.
