From the Margins interviews Richard Robbins, professor of Anthropology at the State University of New York, who has a forthcoming book with co-author Tim Di Muzio titled, Debt as Power. The book takes a historical look at how perpetual economic growth is wedded to a debt economy and argues that debt is a tool of power under capitalism that enriches the 1% at the expense of others.
During the course of the conversation, Robbins speaks about the origins of debt under capitalism, what is really behind austerity measures to curtail national debts, and public responses to debt burdens.
