South House and the Halifax Media Co-op announce two $500 grants for gender-based research projects

(K'JIPUKTUK) Halifax - South House, in conjunction with the Halifax Media Co-op, is pleased to announce the creation of two new grants. We're looking for two research-based pieces, around 2500 words in length, that focus on gender issues in Nova Scotia.

Examples of the kind of topics we're thinking of include: comparing sexual assault response policies across high schools in the province; a report on the current struggle for a provincial and national strategy into Missing and Murdered Indigenous women; a cultural analysis of public and private sexual health education, etc. The options are limitless and we want to hear about which sex and gender issues matter to YOU.

Each grant is for $500.

To be eligible please send a resume, a 200 word pitch for your topic, and two examples of previous work with the subject line, “South House/Media Co-op Grant” to: hmc@mediacoop.ca

The deadline for applications is: Midnight, Monday November 24th, 2014.

Successful applicants will be contacted via email with specific deadlines. Expect to work with a panel of editors on this project.

Both the Media Co-op and the South House Sexual and Gender Resource Centre recognize the contributions that individuals who come from marginalized communities can bring to our media and news-telling. We welcome and encourage Indigenous women, people of colour, trans people, queer people, immigrants and people who are precariously statused, sex workers, single parents, people with disabilities, and poor and working class people to apply. We encourage applicants to describe the contributions and experiences which they could bring to this project.

We look forward to reading about what matters to you!
