Act Now to Support a National Housing Strategy

Support Bill C-400

by Canada Without Poverty

If you believe that in this rich country no one should be homeless, living on the streets or in shelters, then take action to support Bill C-400.  Bill C-400 is a private member’s bill currently before Parliament that addresses the crisis of homelessness and inadequate housing in Canada. It calls for federal leadership on the development of a national housing strategy using a human rights framework and bringing together many stakeholders. The Bill is currently at second reading in the House of Commons and will be referred to Committee - the crucial next step in the legislative process - if a majority vote is received.  The Bill has the support of all opposition parties.

Now is the time to put your values into action! Debate is scheduled for February 13, 2013 followed by a vote scheduled for February 27, 2013.

See the Dignity for All website for resources, templates and more information on how to take action.

The website has a backgrounder on why supporting C400 is important, a petition to collect signatures, and a template letter.

In Nova Scotia, it's especially important to ask all opposition MPs to be in the House for the Debate and to Vote on February 27.
If you live in a Conservative riding, ask them to support the Bill.  We understand several backbench Conservative MPs are supportive,
but may need to know that their constituents are in favour too.
