Reacting to the news that Nova Scotia Power's top executives got double-digit raises last year, at the same time that the private power monopoly has requested another power rate increase for consumers, members of the Halifax and Dartmouth District Labour Council got together to vent their frustrations in song. Lyrics to "Emera's Privateers" were written by Nova Scotia Community College instructor and municipal councillor candidate Waye Mason, and "amended by the members of Solidariglee," says the video's Youtube description. (Emera is Nova Scotia Power's parent company.)
Nova Scotia is one of only two provinces with completely private power utilities, and Nova Scotians pay some of the highest power rates in the country.
