Rally to Save Kitpu - July 12, 2012

by Miles Howe

K'jipuktuk (Halifax) - About 150 people gathered on the evening of July 12 to protest against the federal government's decision to freeze funding to the Cultural Connections for Aboriginal Youth (CCAY) programs.

Locally, the cuts have meant that the Kitpu Youth Program has gone into emergency fundraising mode. The greater community has so far responded in force, with numerous groups and individuals pledging support, financial and otherwise.

A fundraising event will be held on the evening of July 13 at the Bus Stop Theatre, from 7:30 p.m. onwards, and artists from across Nova Scotia and beyond have donated pieces of their work for an art auction.

Visit the Halifax Media Co-op's site later for a full write-up on last night's rally.
