Labour Day Photo Spread

by Miles Howe

K'jipuktuk (Halifax) - Buoyed on by temperatures fitting an endless weekend, encouraged by the smell of b-b-q and tantalized by the sounds of Joe Murphy and the Water Street Blues Band, Haligonians descended by the hundreds to Labour Day festivities in the Commons. Clowns, face painting, dancing and balloon animals showed the lighter side of a labour movement solidified in its purpose after a winter where Halifax earned the title of Canada's "Strike City."

While enjoying these photos, please remember the members of NSUPE local 22, the support staff at Cole Harbour Place. Fighting for little more than minimum wage, local 22 has been on strike for 117 days and counting - stay tuned to this site tomorrow for more.
