CKDU and CHRQ pick up bilingual Mi'kmaq/English podcast - Pjilasi Mi'kma'ki

JUNE 3rd, 2015

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KJIPUKTUK (Halifax) -- The Halifax Media Co-op is thrilled to announce that CKDU, the campus radio station at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, along with CHRQ, the community radio station of Listuguj First Nation, have begun to air episodes of Annie Clair's bilingual podcast series, Pjilasi Mi'kma'ki, through their respective stations.

“We feel humbled to have had a small part to play in hosting Annie's podcast in Mi'kmaq, which of course is the official language of Mi'kma'ki, the territory that encompasses much of Atlantic Canada and beyond,” says Halifax Media Co-op editor Miles Howe. “Part of our mandate as a grassroots news organization is to help promote stories told by members of different communities across the Maritimes. We count this as a great success.”

Episode one of Pjilasi Mi'kma'ki deals with the Sixties Scoop, an issue that Annie Clair wrote about for a February issue of the Coast, Halifax's alternative weekly. Episode two of the podcast, which deals specifically with language retention, will be released later this week.

“It’s very special for our listeners to be able to hear from someone who shares their experiences and stories, and have them told in their own language is something that is priceless,” says Justin Caldwell, of CHRQ. “This podcast is a real gift.”

Episode 1 of Pjilasi Mi'kma'ki can be found here.
